Next Wave 2018 is an online engagement program for AFSCME members between the ages of 18 and 35, designed to reward you for expressing your values and participating in your local union.

No previous experience necessary.

Our mission is to help you make a difference — in your community, at your worksite, at your local union. No matter how big or small, every action matters.

What does this program actually entail?

Steps of Next Wave 2018

Step 1: You sign up.
Step 2: You search for union-related events in your area.
Step 3: You participate in those events.
Step 4: You inform us of your participation.
Step 5: You earn points and make a difference in this world.

How much does this cost?

This program is free-99, a perk of your AFSCME membership. But if you want to pay anything extra, we'll take your money and put it towards the PEOPLE fund.

You said you're going to reward me. What do I get?

Besides the feeling of righteous benevolence for fighting for your rights, you'll also get shareable badges of honor you can show off online, an opportunity to be featured on the main AFSCME website and access to special opportunities like meeting political candidates and lunch with union leaders.

Are you tracking what I'm doing?

We are not in the business of stalking anyone. (We don’t have time for that!) However, in order to earn points, you will need to inform us of your participation in union events via an online tracking form. Once you've notified us of your activity, we'll verify it and assign you reward points.

What if I don't have email or use any social media?

WHO ARE YOU?? To be the future of the labor movement, you need technology.

What happened to the old Next Wave program and the conferences?

The times they are a'changing. We are striving to make Next Wave accessible to young AFSCME members everywhere, rather than keeping it limited to those who could afford to attend the Next Wave Conference. However, you can find more information about the traditional Next Wave program here.

Enough with the questions! Sometimes you just have to give something a try.
Although if you really do have some more questions, you can always contact us at nextwave@afscme.org.
